Design of a Spare Part Service Network with Two Product Classes and Replenishment Uncertainty
In this master thesis project, we use mathematical inventory modeling to evaluate the performance of a special branch of Philips' spare parts service network. The focus lies on spare parts that are distinguished in two di erent variants: new and repaired. In the...
Improving the Backorder Performance by Making Use of Advance Demand Information
This master thesis, conducted at Royal Philips N.V. , reviews the use of advance demand information (ADI) in the service part supply chain (SPSC) of Philips. Next to that, solutions are proposed that make use of ADI in the SPSC. These solutions are applicable to the...
Forward Spare Parts Supply Chain for the Chinese Market
This research project, conducted at Royal Philips in Best, investigates the Chinese spare parts supply chain con guration in terms of total costs, material availability and waiting time. The con guration of the Chinese supply chain, without Hong Kong and Taiwan, is...
Real-time Dispatching and Relocation of Service Engineers
Problem: Given a service region consisting of several machines, repair base stations and service engineers. Costs occur if a machine breaks down and a repairman does not reach it within the established time window. The goal is to minimize costs by finding a smart...
Dynamic Dispatching and Repositioning Policies in Service Logistics Networks
Motivated by the increasing demand for faster service when advanced capital goods fail, we address the problem of dispatching and pro-actively repositioning service engineers in a service logistics network such that extremely short solution times to service requests...
Comparing Different Service Parts Distribution Network Configurations to Evaluate the Effect on Logistics Costs
In this research project, conducted at Philips in Best, we compared different Service Parts Distribution Network (SPDN) con gurations in terms of total logistics costs. Total logistics costs includes inventory holding costs and transportation costs for shipments from...
Effects of Confi gurations in a Service Network with Lateral Transshipments and Emergency Shipments
In this master thesis project, we use mathematical inventory modeling to give Royal Philips strategic insights in their Japanese service network. The implemented model, based on the model from Kranenburg and Van Houtum (2009), considers multiple central warehouses and...
Fire Engine Travel Times: Analysis of Travel Times and Optimal Dispatching Decisions
This master's thesis looks into the problems concerning travel times of fire engines. First, we start with the problem of finding a distribution of the travel times of fi re engines, conditioned on the distance. Here, we fully describe and clarify a previously...
Modelling the Use of Car Stocks to Evaluate the Effect on Logistics Costs
In this research project, we analyze the effects of the introduction of car stocks on logistics costs in the current service process of Royal Philips. A new service process is proposed, that includes spare parts inventory holding at the cars of Field Service Engineers...
Applied Urban Fire Department Incident Forecasting
Every day, when firefighters respond to emergencies, they and the public face an unnecessary risk due to inadequate staffing. Having too many people stand-by costs a lot of money, on the other hand, having too few people stand-by leads to unnecessary safety risks....
